Nurturing one child at a time

UNIQUE CASA PROGRAM

Casa Program Overview

Our Preschool/Casa program for children 2.5 to 6 years of age combines an authentic Montessori curriculum with frequent walking trips around the school, making learning more practical and fun for them. In addition, whenever possible, to instill empathy, kindness, and compassion, we include our children in planning volunteer activities which the school participates.

Taking advantage of our unique location in the serene Oak Ridges area of Richmond Hill, we take children in small groups to nearby parks, nature reserve, bank, post office, and other local businesses. These short trips make learning more practical and fun for our children, allowing them also to develop general knowledge and social skills.

Our curriculum, classrooms, staff qualifications, and teaching standards meet the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) requirements, and we are currently seeking AMI Recognition

In addition to meeting AMI guidelines, our program also aligns with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.  It is also consistent with the Ontario Ministry of Education’s policy on programming and pedagogy on How Does Learning Happen? For more details about our program alignment, please request to review our Program Statement in our Parent Handbook.

AUTHENTIC MONTESSORI CURRICULUM

Our program follows authentic Montessori curriculum that addresses the full development of the child.  Our classrooms are organized with authentic Montessori materials and activities that support all five areas of the Montessori curriculum.

Our curriculum, classrooms, staff qualifications, and teaching standards meet the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) requirements and we are currently seeking AMI Recognition

Please click Montessori Method/Curriculum for more information or contact us and we will be happy to schedule a visit for you to talk to us about our programs, curriculum and observe our classroom in action.

WALKING TRIPS AROUND THE SCHOOL

These walking trips around the school are carried out as part of our normal school day activities, often in small groups to the nearby parks, Lake Wilcox Fish & Wildlife Refuge, sports arena, the local bank, the post office, and other local businesses.

When visiting a store, bank, or post office, children are encouraged to ask questions about their functions, converse with the sales clerk, deal with cash to pay at the check-out, etc.  If visiting a park, children are allowed to explore nature and engage in meaningful discussions that expand their general knowledge.

The right mix of the Montessori curriculum and these field trips allow us to cultivate a keen interest in learning while providing opportunities for our children to expand their general knowledge and social skills.

Our Casa program offers full-day and half-day options. Since children are more focused in the mornings, as per AMI guidelines for the primary program, our Casa program incorporates a three-hour uninterrupted work cycle in the mornings and a two-hour work cycle in the afternoons.  Consequently, both our full-day and half-day Casa program options run all 5 days of the week. We do not offer part-week or afternoon-only Casa programs.

We highly recommend that children over the age of 4 attend our full-day program to gain the full benefit of the Montessori education.
